SILVER CITY, N.M. – Gabriela “Chela” Gonzalez, 69, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago.
She was born March 24, 1945 to Perfecto and Alberta (Parra) Martinez in Miguel Negrete, Dgo, Mexico.
She waitressed at Nancy’s Silver Café for 31 years. She took great pride working at the Silver Café and loved her regular customers.
She enjoyed gardening in her free time.
She also enjoyed garage sales, finding hidden treasures for family and friends.
She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.
She was known for giving advice and on multiple occasions she was known to help others get back on their feet.
Chela's work, hobbies, and good deeds can't compare to the love she had for her two children, Ruby and Eric. She passed on her entertaining sense of humor, selflessness, and hard work ethic to them.
Survivors include son, Eric “Chente” Gonzalez, Denver; daughter, Ruby Terrazas and husband Lupino Terrazas, Liberal; sisters: Josephina Martinez, Durango, Dgo, Mexico, Maria Ester Lopez and husband Roberto, Royce City, Texas, Maria Cruz Maldonado, Miguel Negrete, Dgo, Mexico, and Herlinda Garcia and husband Fidel of Northlake, Ill.; grandchildren: Brandyn, Samantha and Rachelle Terrazas; and many Nephews and Nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Inocente Martinez; sister, Nazaria “Nancy” Ruiz; and brother-in-laws, Manuel Ruiz and Jamie Maldonado.
• Vigil and Rosary Service will be 7:00p.m. Sunday, Apr. 20 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Apr. 21 at St. Anthony Catholic Church
Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Brenneman Funeral Home.
