Seward’s double header sweep over Cloud Friday was critical for the Saints in a race to earn a home playoff game.

Seward moved out of a tie for fifth and into sole possession of fourth after the sweep.

With only eight games to go before the sweep, Seward needed to win both games to stay in the hunt for one of the top four spots in the Jayhawk West, and Austin King pitched a three-hitter in the opener to lead the Saints to their first victory of the day, 6-1.

A Seward error allowed Cloud to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Saints responded with five runs in the bottom of the first.

King settled in over the next six innings and cut down Cloud batters the rest of the way. King ended the game with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Three Saints doubled in the 6-1 win including Bryson Allen, Kevin Connolly and Brandon Uriquizo. Uriquizo also added two RBIs.

Seward dominated Game 2 with a 12-0 win.

The Saints (27-21, 15-11) had two more games against Cloud (12-29, 7-19) Saturday.

Later this week, the Saints will travel to El Dorado to face third place Butler County (29-18, 16-10) in a four-game series.

Seward will need to remain in the top four to host a home series to open the Region VI post-season tournament.
