This time of year sees a tremendous increase in the stray dog and cat populations. We do have animal control, but it is inadequately staffed and overwhelming to the people who work there.
Some of the responsibilities – and yes, we are responsible for the domestic animals that have no care – can be shared with Angels For Animals, an organization that specializes in neutering and spaying at a very reasonable cost, for finding homes for abandoned animals and helping with medical care. But, we need the support of the citizens of Liberal.
Many people feel like when they call the “pound,” their responsibility is over. But there are ongoing concerns that must be met, as we have made dogs and cats pets and therefore, accepted the fact they must be cared for.
A group of citizens here in Liberal have formed and run an organization to help alleviate some of the problems of overpopulation of abandoned animals. We’ve been active for years but need the help and interest of other people in town.
Angels For Animals is not a business, is not funded predictably by anything but concern and generosity from Liberal.
We need volunteers, supplies, financial support and help if we are to continue.
What we need are phone calls that offer help as well as phone calls that report desperately ill, injured or helpless animals.
We are available for programs for other organizations. It is time to step up and offer aid.
Please call us: Dee Leete at 624-6613; Louise Collins at 370-5774 or Starley Craig at 624-5354.
We can help you, but it’s a two-way street. With interest and cooperation, we can help solve a real problem, even if it’s invisible at times.
