The Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs lost a pair of games on the softball diamond at Ulysses, Thursday. Heights lost by run-rule in five innings 16-5 in Game 1, then saw a late lead slip away in an 18-13 loss.

In Game 2, Heights had added two more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 13-11 lead over Ulysses. But the Lady Tigers answered right back with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead, 18-13.

Ulysses held the Lady Mustangs without a run in the seventh to sweep Heights.

The game started slowly with neither team able to muster a run in the first two innings. Then Hieghts exploded for seven runs in the top of the third, and Ulysses answered back in the bottom half with five.

After four innings the two teams with knotted at nine, and after five still tied at 11.

Six errors hurt the Lady Mustangs dearly, and both sides gave up 14 walks.

Heights' Danielle Sanchez was 1-3 with a triple, a walk, three RBI, and two runs scored. Diana Carillo was 1-2 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. Celia Sanchez scored three runs; Dakoda Cox was 1-2 with three walks, two RBI, and a run scored, and Sara Eakes scored two runs.

Ulysses dominated Game 1 from the beginning with six runs in the first and another five in the second to go up 11-2.

Ulysses led 16-5 after four, but still had to play the fifth for the run-rule win.

Walks were a major problem for the Lady Mustangs, who gave up fifteen of them. Defensively Heights struggled too, committing six errors.

Heights actually outhit Ulysses 7-3, but could not overcome their mistakes in the field.

Hannah Baldwin was 2-2 with a triple and two runs scored; Viancy Jimenez was 2-3 with a triple and a run scored, and Danielle Sanchez was 2-2 with a triple, a run scored, and a stolen base. Kiana Collins was 1-2 with two RBI, and a stolen base.
