People who are clients of Bank of America were recently startled to discover the bank’s Liberal branch at 300 N. Kansas Ave. and its drive-through location at 1325 N. Kansas Avenue will soon be closing.
The decision comes after a decline in transactions, as customers are increasingly relying on other channels such as mobile and online banking methods.
”We constantly adapt our banking center and ATM networks to fit customers’ changing needs, as customers are increasingly relying on other channels,” said Diane Wagner, senior vice president at Bank of America. “Our goal is to find the right balance between streamlining our banking center network and minimizing the impact to our customers and employees.”
The Liberal branch will officially close on Aug. 8 of this year. While the bank itself will be closing, Bank of America will be maintaining a deposit image ATM in Liberal at 920 S. Kansas Avenue (as the other locations in Wichita, Topeka, Kansas City and Lawrence are too far a distance) and customers can still bank via telephone, online and mobile.
Wagner said customers were mailed letters beginning May 2 informing them of the closure and directing them to Bank of America banking centers that will be able to receive their accounts.
The building that houses the bank will be marketed for sale.
“When a banking center closes, we provide various forms of assistance to impacted employees including helping them find other opportunities within the company or severance as applicable,” Wagner said.
