The Dodge City Red Demons may have headed home thinking about the second game of a double header in Liberal, but the Redskins would remember the opener.
Dodge City jumped all over the Redskins in the second game, 15-2, but the first game was a battle that came down to the bottom of the final inning before Liberal was able to claim the win.
Liberal jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the second inning, but Dodge City rallied to tie the game in the fourth.
Doge City loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth, and Liberal coach Eric Olmstead relieved Collin Ware with Jared Fox.
Fox was able to get two soft grounders on the infield, and both times outs were recorded at home plate. A line drive to first was caught to kill the bases-loaded threat and preserve the 5-5 tie.
Timothy Fitzgerald led off the sixth with a triple, but the Redskins left him stranded.
Fox again prevented a Dodge City score in the seventh, and Kaiden Long led off for the Redskins with a double.
Stevie Lira roped a shot to deep left over the Red Demon’s head, and Long trotted home for the winning score.
