After being the director at Liberal Memorial Library for the last six-and-a-half years, Jill Pannkuk has decided to step down from the position.
Pannkuk offered her resignation to the board during the first week of April, and her last day on the job was May 2. She will be moving to rural Washington to start a new library there.
“The staff was surprised, but we're all happy that she's embarking on an excellent library opportunity,” said Paulina Poplawska, interim director at Liberal Memorial Library. “The staff will definitely miss her.”
According to Ken Thompson, chair of the library board, ads for the position have been sent out to different library organizations and applications will be accepted until the job is filled.
“It’s sad to see Jill leave. She’s done great things for the library and the community,” Poplawska said. “It was a pleasure to work for her over the last six and a half years, and I think the library has transformed under her direction, for the better. Professionally though, I totally understand. This was a position she could not pass up. It doesn't come around often in the library world.”
