Franzie L. Loepp, 74, died May 18, 2014, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Ill.

He was born June 17, 1939, to Franzie P. and Leona Dirks Loepp in Liberal.

He married Dorothy Harms on May 29, 1961 at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church in Whitewater. She survives.

He earned a doctorate degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

He was employed to do research for the Department of Industrial Technology at Illinois State University. He also served as the chairperson of the department and as Director of the Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology. He retired in 2003 as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Illinois State University.

He was a member of the Mennonite Church of Normal, Ill. He helped with the construction of the building in 1980 and served as a board member of the Mennonite Education Agency.

He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and many Mennonite Disaster Service project sites.

He enjoyed biking and woodworking.

Other survivors include mother; son, Leroy Loepp, Normal; daughter, Susan Loepp, Williamstown, Mass.; and brother, Dennis Loepp and wife, Dori, Turpin, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his father.

• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Mennonite Church of Normal, with Pastors Tim Schrag and Jane Roeschley presiding.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Cremation has already taken place.

Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity of McLean County, Mennonite Disaster Service or the Franzie Loepp Endowed Scholarship Fund at Illinois State University.
