Emma L. Wales, 96, died Saturday, June 07, 2014 in Durango, Colo.
She was born Sept. 6, 1917 in Liberal to H.C. and Kate Brisendine.
She married John A. Russell in September 1935. He preceded her in death in August 1959.
She later married Harold Wales on March 10, 1977. He preceded her in death in 1980.
She grew up in Liberal, attending schools there, graduating from Liberal High School in 1935.
She lived in many different communities with various employments, mostly in service and caretaking positions.
She was known as an accomplished seamstress.
She was also an artist in textile printing, copper jewelry making, ceramics, and other mixed media.
She was very active in her church and mission work, making 11 annual mission trips to Mexico with friends.
The last 2 years of her life she lived at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango, Colo. where she interacted with staff and residents, enjoying their programs, activities and excellent care.
Survivors include her children: Marilyn J. Hollenbeck, Buena Vista, Colo., Jeannie Stewart, Bayfield, Colo., daughter-in-law, Michelle Russell, Gillette, Wy., and son, Bud Russell, Roy, Wash.; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings; son, Jerry; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
• Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Ignacio Community Church.
Burial will immediately follow at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield, Colo.
