The Liberal Bee Jays completed a six-game season series sweep over the Albuquerque Diablos Tuesday with an 8-0 win.
Neither team scored in the first three innings, but Seth Stevens scored a run in the fourth to give the Bee Jays a 1-0 lead.
Nathan Smythe took over pitching duties in the fifth and kept the Diablos off the board for the next two innings.
Zach Reding hit a three-run blast in the top of the seventh, and the Bee Jays scored five in the inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Liberal added two more runs in the top of the ninth, and Blake Rogers came in to preserve the shutout.
The pattern of the big inning was common in the series with the Diablos.
In the six games, Liberal outscored the Diablos 48-13 and had a minimum of a three-run inning in each of the six games.
Liberal never scored less than seven runs in the six games and never allowed more than four.
The Bee Jays return to Kansas for a Thursday game in Dodge City before returning to Brent Gould Field for the special Fourth of July game against the A’s Friday.
With 15 league games to go and Liberal trailing third by three-and-a-half games, the Bee Jays will need a strong finish to earn an invitation to the NBC World Series.
