Recently, Martin Bauer, District Governor of Rotary District 5690, visited the Liberal Rotary Club.
His remarks played off of this year’s Rotary theme, “Light Up Rotary.” He asked each Rotarian what they want their Rotary experience to be. Bauer said that we must ask others to be Rotarians and experience the same things about Rotary that we enjoy now.
Currently, the District has 1,630 members but could do better. Bauer said be proud to be a Rotarian. He pointed out that India has been polio free for three years in large part due to Rotary. The project to iradicate polio has been so successful that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given $350 million to help the cause.
He stated that we must also give of our time and resources to help with worthy projects. This year, the Rotary International Foundation will provide $83,000 to 21 clubs in District 5690 to help fund worthy projects that the clubs have proposed. $3,100 will come back to the Liberal Rotary Club with numerous projects already planned for the year.
He said Rotarians need to promote Rotary. The District will have a booth at the Kansas State Fair this year. This is just one example of how that can be done.
His final challenge was to Light Up Rotary in onesself, in their community, and their club.
District Governor Bauer is a second generation Rotarian and is an attorney with the firm of Martin, Pringle, Olive, Wallace and Bauer, LLP. His home club is the Rotary Club of Wichita.
