The Liberal Bee Jays ended the season with a win wednesday on the road, 6-2 over Dodge City to sweep the A’s in Dodge City  finish their worst league performance in history.

Ray Ashford earned the win on the mound in the season finale.

Liberal scored four runs in the second inning, and the defense was able to make the lead stand the rest of the way.

The Bee Jays were able to avoid finish tied in last place in the Jayhawk League with the win.

The win ended Liberal’s season at 13-21 in the Jayhawk League, 19-21 overall.

Until this season, Liberal’s worst league record was two games under .500.

Four league teams (Wellington, Hays, Derby and El Dorado) will represent the Jayhawk League at the NBC World Series.

The tough season also ended a six-year streak of national tournament appearances for the Bee Jays including 2010 when Liberal won the national championship,  and a third place finish in 2009.

The Bee Jays have won five national championships, tying them for second all time.
