The Five State Fair will be hosting the talents of The Redhead Express on Friday.

The group, consisting of sisters Kendra, LaRae, Alisa and Meghan Walker will be opening for country legend Sammy Kershaw at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Grandstands.

Not bad for a band that, according to the group’s bio, didn’t even exist five years ago.

The group has played across the country, from California to Florida, doing roughly 200 shows a year at various performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, churches and schools, the group’s bio goes on to say. The sisters also performed two seasons in Branson and are now pursuing a country career in Nashville. RedHead Express has become a sought after show, considered highly entertaining.

Shortly after arriving in Nashville, Redhead Express was blessed to meet one of the finest producers in the country, Paul Worley, known for producing famous names including the Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Lady Antebellum and The Band Perry, among others.

The group’s show features country, bluegrass, Irish, gospel, originals and even acoustic ’50s and ’60s tunes.

During the Branson tour, Redhead Express was nominated for Best Family Show and picked up many other awards, according to the group’s bio. Lead vocalist Kendra was given the committee chair award for her vocals, LaRae was awarded banjo player of the year, Alisa was named the most outstanding young female artist and Meghan was awarded bass player of the year.

The group’s bio goes on to say Kendra also won the FAME Award in the Rio Grande Valley for her songwriting skills. The National Traditional Country Music Association also awarded Redhead Express CD of the Year for their album Paintin’ the Town Red.

Industry professionals describe the ascendance of Redhead Express as extraordinary – without an agency’s help, RedHead Express has performed nearly 1,000 shows and are typically booked two years out with coveted pricing and venues.

For those interested in seeing the sisters of RedHead Express, the gates open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning an hour later.
