The people of Chicago may be waking up. If not, they should look to statistics investigative reporter Kelly Ridell dug up for an Aug. 24 article in the Washington Times.
It seems, “Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low,” Kelly reported.
While that is good news for Chicago’s citizens, its leaders and the so-called leaders of America’s blacks have turned a blind eye to those facts.
What else would one expect from the poverty pimps and race mongers that purport to look after blacks’ welfare?
Ridell’s article quoted an NRA spokesman: “It isn’t any coincidence crime rates started to go down when concealed carry was permitted. Just the idea that the criminals don’t know who’s armed and who isn’t has a deterrence effect,” said Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. “The police department hasn’t changed a single tactic — they haven’t announced a shift in policy or of course — and yet you have these incredible numbers.”
Concealed carry isn’t just helping people in “Murderer’s Row” (Chicago), it’s helping across the nation. Ridell reported: “A July study by the Crime Prevention Research Center found that 11.1 million Americans have permits to carry concealed weapons, a 147 percent increase from 4.5 million seven years ago. Meanwhile, homicide and other violent crime rates have dropped by 22 percent.”
Why aren’t Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and Louis Farrakhan beating the drum to allow all law-abiding citizens to purchase and own guns for self defense?
Because then they wouldn’t have as many opportunities to fleece cash out of the pockets of millions of blacks who fall for Sharpton’s, Farrakhan’s and Jackson’s calls of racism. If blacks and whites and Hispanics and everyone else got along, those three bloodsuckers would be out of a job.
Stir up the emotions with race-baiting, blame all the bad choices people make on “The Whites.” That’s what those so-called leaders are good for – nothing else at all.
The fiasco in Ferguson, Mo., is a prime example. How many black unarmed teens are shot and killed by a white cop in America today?
Granted one is too many if the teen was innocent, but inciting riots and anarchy and turning the ragged emotions of mourners into lynch mobs is not the answer.
It’s funny, blacks in the first half of this century feared the lynch mob more than anything. Now, many of today’s young blacks have become what their parents and grandparents despised decades ago – a lynch mob – with of course, the nudgings of the Sharptons and Jacksons out there.
Where was Al and Jessie after 9-year-old Antonio Smith was killed Aug. 21, in the backyard of an apartment building in Chicago by a stray bullet?
Columnist Charles Payne illustrated the hypocrisy clearly in his Wednesday column in the L&T.
“Sadly, Antonio is one of the hundreds of victims of senseless murders in Chicago that have taken place over the years – 30 of which occurred just this month (a half dozen of those victims were 18 or younger),” Payne wrote. “If this were white-on-black murders, it would be called hate crimes, or even an attempt at genocide. Instead these murderers are given a pass, or they become martyrs, while poverty and guns take the blame.”
I can’t find the exact number, but ask yourself this, “How many unarmed black teens are shot and killed by other blacks?”
Where is the outrage?
Where are the marches and demonstrations?
The riots and looting?
The TV sound bites every hour?
The emotional high-profile funerals?
Many anti-gun proponents will use Ferguson as a reason to take away gun rights, but let’s hope more and more people see what’s happening in Chicago. If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere.
“‘There’s a lot of academic research that’s been done on this, and if you look at the peer- reviewed studies, the bottom line is a large majority find a benefit of concealed carry on crime rates — and, at worst, there’s no cost,” said John Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center based in Swarthmore, Pa. ‘You can deter criminals with longer prison sentences and penalties, but arming people with the right to defend themselves with a gun is also a deterrence,’” Ridell reported in the Washington Times.
