The father and son who allegedly beat a man severely Monday evening has been identified after they made a firdt appearance Wednesday in Seward COunty District Court.
Eliseo Avila, 46, and his son, Aleaxander Avila-Ortiz, 20, were arrested Monday night after allegedly beating Anthony Martinez, Jr., 20, during a altercation in the 100 block of West Hickory in Liberal. 
According to a statement released by Liberal Police Capt. Patrick McClurg, both father and son “beat the man with an object, causing severe head injuries.” McClurg also added, “The man was later transferred to Wichita with life threatening injuries.”
Both men have a scheduling hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Monday in Seward County District court in front of District Judge Clint Peterson.
When arrested, both father and son were charged with attempted  murder, but Seward County District Attorney Don Scott told other media outlets that if Martinez died, the charges would be changed to second degree murder. Scott was unavailable for comment Friday afternoon.
