RALPH F. QUIRING
NEWTON – Ralph F. Quiring, 88, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Kidron Bethel Assisted Living in Newton.
He was born Sept. 1, 1920, to Peter and Sarah (Duersen) Quiring in Freeman, S.D.
He married Rosa Goertz. She preceded him in death.
He graduated from Goessel High School in 1936 and Bethel College in 1942. He earned his master’s degree from New York University.
He served in the United States Air Force. He worked as a climatologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He was awarded a Distinguished Service Medal from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
He volunteered at the Mennonite Heritage Museum in Goessel.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two sons, David (Lillian) Quiring, Liberal, and Donald Quiring, Folsom, Pa.; one daughter, Patty (Jim) Apperson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Herbert Quiring, Sedalia, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Tschetter, Smolan, and Susan Wedel, Laramie, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Karl Quiring and Paul Quiring.
o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Goessel Mennonite Church with Pastor Mike Hiebert presiding.
Burial will be at the Goessel Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Goessel Mennonite Heritage Museum in care of the funeral home.
