ULYSSES – Vesta V. Short, 100, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at he Legacy at Park View in Ulysses.
She was born February 26, 1910, to Fred and Edna (McCarter) Johnston Sr. in Kensington.
She married Jesse Charles (Jack) Short June 20, 1931 in Wichita. He died February 28, 1976.
She was a homemaker and sold cosmetics.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.
She was the first Chaplain for the Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
Survivors include, one son, Michael Short and wife, Karen, Hutchinson; one sister, Winifred Nichols, Minot, N. D.; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Tommy Jack and John; one daughter, Janice Kathleen; two brothers, Fred Johnston Jr. and Bob Johnston; and one sister, Eleanor Ellis.
o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Rev. Wayne Flanders presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
