JUANITA D. OWINGS
GARDEN CITY – Juanita Deloris Owings, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at her home in Garden City.
She was born March 31, 1925, to Charles A. and Carrie A. (Dotson) Young in Satanta.
She married Charles Vance Owings Aug. 12, 1944, in Satanta. He died May 16, 2004.
She owned and operated The Hickory Cafe in Satanta in the 1950s. She drove a school bus for Satanta schools during the 1960s.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holcomb. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the First Baptist Church of Satanta.
She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, making noodles, crocheting and embroidering.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Vance Owings Jr. and wife, Jimmie Anne, Garden City, and Dwayne Douglas Owings, Garden City; two daughters, Deloris Hockett and husband, Doug, Wichita, and Kayra Owings, Garden City; one brother, Walter Young, Hugoton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Claude Curtis Owings; five brothers, Chester, Ernest, Clifford, Charles Allen and Gale Young; and two sisters, Lavina Larkins and Thelma Rowley.
o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City with the Rev. Jon Becker presiding.
Graveside services will be at noon Monday at the Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Haskell County Funeral Home.
