Daily Leader staff report

The Lady Redskins went 2-2 on the week, sweeping Wichita Southeast but dropping a pair to Garden City.

The Lady Redskins swept Southeast 15-1 and 15-0.

But the Lady Redskins dropped the Western Athletic Conference games to garden 3-0 and 14-4.

The Lady Buffs scored three early and Emily Jackson and the Liberal defense prevented any more runs the rest of the game.

Liberal tried to rally in the seventh when Riley Hay earned a walk, but s trike-out and runner interference call ended the threat and the game.

“I was glad to see the defense stay in the game after giving up three runs early,” Liberal coach Pat Knott said. “We made plays to keep us in it but were unable to do it on the offensive end when needed.”

Game 2 didn’t go as well. The Lady Buffs rocked Brooke Scheuermann for six runs in the first inning, and Jackson came in relief and gave up eight more the rest of the way in the 14-4 loss.
