Ryan Petty sparked an early Redskin run that left no doubt that Liberal was on its way to an easy win Tuesday evening at the Big House.

The Redskins coasted to a 75-29 win to move to 2-0 on the season.

Kevin Livingston set the tone early with two three-pointers in the first minute and a half of the game, and Petty went on a scoring and stealing rampage to help fuel the offensive frenzy.

“Petty did a great job,” Liberal coach Drew Gruver said. “He’s not always going to stand out on the scorebook, but he always plays hard.

He’s a solid, smart player. I’m pleased with the way he played.”

Petty scored six first quarter points and 10 in the game. He also forced a number of steals to kickstart the deadly Redskin transition game.

At the end of the first quarter the Redskins had a 26-2 lead.

“They weren’t hitting shots and we were,” Liberal point guard Alex Gilmore said. “We played hard and didn’t let up.”

Maintaining high intensity was probably Gruver's biggest challenge.

“When you get a big lead, it’s hard to keep the intensity up,” he said. “We can’t overlook things we didn’t do right. When you win big, you tend to overlook those things. We have to continue to work at getting better.”

Eleven Redskins scored, led by Livingston's 22 points. Jade Cathey had 11, Petty had 10, and Gilmore scored seven. Tyson Deaton also added six.

The Redskins closed out the game with a 20-1 run in the fourth quarter when Liberal’s starters were watching their teammates execute the Redskin offense.

The experience of the Redskins shined throughout the game. Gilmore was able to find the open cutter and make the additional pass.

“The chemistry on this team is great,” Gilmore said. “We know where to go with the ball. We know who’s got the hot, and we will get them the ball.”
