Another Liberal high School athlete has made the move to college athletics.
Blake Willimon signed his letter of intent this morning to play football for the Dodge City
Community College Conquistadors next fall.
Willimon returned to Liberal for his senior season after spending time in south Texas and
immediately became a starting receiver for the Redskins.
That experience has helped Willimon get an opportunity to continue his career as a football
player at the collegiate level.
“Being on the field here the entire season gave
me experience,” Willimon said.
He also like the short distance between Liberal
and Dodge City.
“It seemed like a great place, and I can come
back and visit,” he said.
Liberal High School coach Wade Standley was
optimistic about Willimon’s future at Dodge.
“Blake will do a great job,” he said. “He does a
good job of blocking, and he runs good routers.
He has good hands.”
Standley said it was his goal to make sure that
the players are prepared for the next level.
“When they go to college we want them to be
fundamentally sound,” he said. “Technique
becomes very important, and that is not emphasized
at the high school level. We believe it is
important for them to know technique.”
Willimon will suit up for the Conqs this fall
when the 2010 season begins.
