TURPIN, Okla. – Vernon W. “Slim” Williams, 83, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 21, 1927, to Luther and Harriet Williams in Turpin, Okla.
He graduated Turpin High School in 1945.
He married LaVeta B Frederick Dec. 31, 1953, in Clayton, N.M. She died Jan. 16, 1994.
He worked at Nash Finch in the warehouse. Later, he drove for TOX and Graves Truck Lines, retiring in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by three sons, Alan Williams, Turpin, Gary Williams, Elizabethtown, Pa., and Tim Williams and wife, Loita, U.S. Army, Calif.; three daughters, Roxanna Cerantes, Turpin, Teresa Kreie and husband, Scott, Turpin, Sandra Ward and husband, Bobby, Guymon, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
o Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Tabernacle, with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will be at the Independence Cemetery in rural Turpin.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary.
