• Daily Leader staff report
Dr. Setan A. Lee has brought his unique ministry to Liberal twice, and his tales of surviving the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and becoming a Christian has inspired many in the community.
On Sunday, Lee sent his TransformAsia newsletter to some in the community. The Daily Leader has decided to publish his letter in its entireity in order to update local supporters of his progress with his ministry. Be aware it does solicit donations to his ministry, and it reads as follows:
Dear partners of TransformAsia,
The news reports almost every day are talking about gloomy things in our country and elsewhere in the world. There have been personal financial reversals, global financial tragedies, natural disasters and now the oil spill tragedy has caused many people to be unsure about what their financial future holds.
But in spite of what has been happening in the world, you have been faithful to God by supporting the ministries of TransformAsia and enabling our ministry to continue to move forward. And, we deeply appreciate all that you have done to further the Kingdom of God in Cambodia.
Because of your faithful praying and giving, we have been able to feed, educate, train and teach God’s Word by:
o Housing 60 orphaned or abandoned children at the David Center.
o Housing 35 girls at the Women’s Center
o Feeding 150 poor and undernourished children at Kambour village, many who have been abandoned by their parents due to the severe poverty in this village
o Housing and training 22 girls at the Battambang Trade School;
o Feeding and teaching 72 children at the Joy Dump Day Care Center
o In addition to these opportunities, 35 pastors and churches are being subsidized on a monthly basis.
We also want to thank God for several new staff members who are now or will soon be serving in Cambodia.
o The Rev. Randy and Krystal Odom will be traveling to Anlong Veng to oversee the David Center. They will be leaving California in August. We would ask that you would pray for them as they are raising the finances for their support, travel and setup expenses. Their presence and leadership at the David Center will enable us to better provide proper care and education to these potential leaders of Cambodia. We praise God for this answered prayer.
o Dr. Brian Kalsbeek has been appointed as our new executive director. He is semi-retired and is volunteering his valuable services to serve both here in the states and in Cambodia.
o Two new young Christian Cambodian University graduates started volunteering in our office and are now employed full time. They are a real asset to our staff in Cambodia.
Four members of our board of directors worked several months to put together a new five-year plan for the ministry of TransformAsia. This plan provides new direction and focus for TransformAsia.
The addition of these new staff members and this new five-year plan gives me much more time to spend with the pastors and leaders in Cambodia and more time to minister here in the states.
One of the main benefits of our new plan is to give you, our partners, better direction in knowing what our goals and financial needs are.
We are asking God to give us 1,000 people who will commit to be a partner in one of these ministries by giving $39 per month for one of the above mentioned opportunities. (This is the equivalent of one cup of coffee, soft drink or snack per day.) Every sponsor who becomes involved in this program will periodically receive updates on the project they are partnering with.
When our expenses are broken down this way, we believe it will become more appealing to more people and it will also give us more people who will be involved in praying for these opportunities.
We deeply appreciate your past involvement in the ministry of TransformAsia.
Would you now prayerfully consider becoming a monthly partner in one of these opportunities? And, would you be willing to ask some of your friends to also become a partner in the ministry of TransformAsia?
Yours truly in Christ,
Dr. Setan Aaron Lee, D.Litt.
