Horace Weldon “Brownie” Brown, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Southwest Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 15, 1930, to Edgar H. and Mary Frances Derrich Brown in Griggs, Okla.

He married Nettie L. Hecox May 2, 1958, in Liberal. She survives.

He attended Plainview School in Griggs.

He worked in oilfied service companies, and including R.C. Williams Trucking in 1967, he began work for Ralston Purina Company and retired in 1991.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Army and receiving many medals, including four Bronze Stars.

Other survivors include seven brothers, Wayne Brown and wife, Clarkie, Lufken, Texas, Winston Brown and wife, Bonie, Indiannola, Neb., Ronald Brown and wife, Shirley, Casa Grande, Ariz., Charles Horne and wife, Mary, Brownwood, Texas, Olin Horne and wife, Elizabeth, Midland, Texas, Donald Brown, Enid, Okla., and Dean Brown and wife, Patty, Fritch, Texas; three sisters, Grace Prewett, Tulsa, Okla., LaVell Haggard, Stratford, Texas, and Edwyna Cooper and husband, Barry, Hereford, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Harry Brown, and four sisters, Myrtle Northcutt, Noma Prewitt, Mina Lois Brown and Lynda Carol James.

o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Chapel with the Rev. Bill Prater presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to service time Monday at Miller Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Southwest Medical Center, ICU Unit or to Leukemia Society of America Kansas Chapter in care of the mortuary.
