GARDEN CITY – Josephine M. Mesa, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at her home in Garden City.

She was born April 16, 1920, to Francisco and Antonia (Medrano) Enriquez in Olathe.

She married Alfonso G. Mesa May 10, 1943, in Garden City. He died Oct. 9, 1980.

She attended school in Nebraska and Holcomb.

She worked as a housekeeper and nanny for families in Garden City.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Altar Society, RCIA and was a Eucharistic minister.

She volunteered for Emmaus Home. She enjoyed embrodidery, cooking, doing word puzzles, reading the Bible, praying the rosary and spending time with her family.

Surivivors include seven children, Robert Mesa, Liberal, Arthur Mesa, Seattle, Victoria Mesa, Garden City, Edward Mesa, Colorado Springs, Colo., Debra Foote, Garden City, Christopher Mesa, Garden City, and Frances Alarcon, Dodge City; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Margaret Morgan and Ruth Copeland; two brothers, Leonard and Frank Enriguez; and five sisters, Paula Chavez, Katie Cervantes, Santos Enriguez, Henrietta Pichardo and Felipa Enriquez.

o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Father Wesley Schawe presiding.

Vigil and rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City.

Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Dominic Catholic School Endowment Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
