Daily Leader staff report
The Liberal Bee Jays were swept on their first road trip of the season, falling to the Haysville Heat in all three games over the weekend. The losses dropped Liberal from a virtual tie for first to fourth.
It was the long ball that did the most damage while the Bee Jays had its worst hitting outing in any three-game set so far this season.
After dropping the first game of the series 14-1, the Bee Jays had leads in each of the next two games.
Liberal led 3-0 in Game 2 before a grand slam gave Haysville the lead. Liberal dropped the game 6-3.
In the final game of the series, the Bee Jays again had a 3-0 lead and watched it disappear in the fifth again aided by a home run. Liberal dropped the final game of the series 6-3.
Christian Kowalchuk pitched the first four innings of the game but was on a pitch limit.
The last time the two teams faced off was in the NBC World Series in 2008. Havasu came in with only one loss while the Bee Jays barely qualified for the tournament. But the Bee Jays stunned the then Havasu Heat and went on to a fourth place national finish.
Liberal will take today off and will return to Brent Gould Field Tuesday when they host El Dorado.
