MEADE – Sidney C. Langford, 83, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Meade District Hospital.

He was born Oct. 5, 1926, to William and Hattie (Staten) Langford in Monroe County, Miss.

He married Betty Taggart in 1947.

He then married Norma Butler Nov. 26, 1951, in Oxford, Miss. She survives.

He attended the Wren, Mississippi school system. Upon his graduation, he joined the United States Navy serving as a quartermaster from 1943 until 1946.

He worked for Wolfe Motor Company for 23 years. he company later sold, and he worked for DeLissa Ford Inc. for 10 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Meade where he served throughout the years.

He is also survived by one son,                                      Rjay Langford and wife, Danette, Meade; one daughter, Diedre Stafford and husband, John, Kansas City, Kan; one brother,                                Albert Langford, Moorville, Miss.; one sister, Effie Harlow, Lumber Bridge, N.C.; three granddaughters, Kinzie Post and husband, Brett, KeAnne Langford and Karalee Langford; two step-granddaughters, Jamie Baker and husband, Lee, Jennie Mullenix; eight great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Sarah Cox, Texico, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James; six brothers; six sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

o Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Rev. Lynn E. Spencer presiding.

Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday with the family present from 10 to 11 a.m. and  from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
