It isn’t officially summer in Liberal until Summerfest comes along and kicks off the season. Liberal Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring the annual Summerfest celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Blue Bonnet Park – and there is sure to be something for all ages to enjoy.
Ronna Stump of Liberal Parks and Rec Department mentioned some of the highlights of this year’s Summerfest activities.
“The headline is we are going to have the Liberal Police Department’s K-9 unit out doing a demonstration with the dog, Rex, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. behind the recreation center,” she said. “It is a great chance to come and watch the dog and see how he works.”
Liberal’s LifeTeam will also be on hand to allow those in attendance to check out the helicopter.
“The LifeTeam helicopter will be landing around 11:30 a.m.,” Stump said. “It is a great way to go look at the helicopter inside and talk to the pilot if you have any
questions.”
For $2 per person, the public is invited to participate in a miniature golf tournament to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. The tournament will be sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters along with KSCB from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Local businesses and organizations will be on hand with booths of all kinds, Stump said.
“We will have different booths out; some information, some doing games with the kids,” she said. “So that is a great time.
“Angels for Animals will have their booth, they will be selling food to raise funds for their organization,” she continued. “They will also have puppies to be adopted out. The pancake board will be there giving away free pancakes from 9 a.m. to noon. St. Anthony’s Church will have a food booth, and I think we will bring our trailer over and have hamburgers and hot dogs.
Cheryl Louderback of OTLR will also be on hand with several fun activities for pets and owners.
“OTLR with Cheryl Louderback will be having a pet parade, different contests for animals; how to dress up your animal, owner and pet look alike contest,” Stump said. “There will be several things going on with that booth.”
From booths to entertainment, Stump is sure there will be something for every member of the family to enjoy.
“We will have entertainment going on all day,” she said. “If you just want to come out and listen to people sing just to relax, it will be great.
“We invite everyone to come out,” she added. “We have something for everybody, I feel like.”
