Special to the Leader
The top two teams in the KSOK Babe Ruth League squared off at the Liberal Baseball Complex Thursday evening with the Liberal Rattlers coming out on top in both contests against the Hugoton Hawks.
Brandyn Terrazas got the win in the minor game pitching a 21-0 shut out.
The second game was a much closer game with the Rattlers coming from behind in the seventh. The inning began with the Rattlers down 6-3.
Dustin Loftiss singled then stole second. He was hit home by Beau Fick to narrow the gap to 6-4.
Lorenzo Pondo advanced Fick but was thrown out at first. Dalton Rutledge then singled and stole second. After a strike out Christian Hernandez came to the plate with two out and the undefeated season on the line. The 13-year-old lefty ripped a hit to center to score Fick and Rutledge to tie the game.
Rattler Rayce Warden singled and Alan Ramirez was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Adrian Carrasco. With two strikes, Carrasco hit a sharp grounder to the short stop who mishandled the ball. Hernandez scored, and the Rattlers unblemished record remained in tact, 7-6.
Hernandez also received the win after relieving Fick in the fifth, pitching three scoreless innings.
The next game for the Rattlers will be Monday against the Liberal Diamondbacks at the Liberal Baseball Complex.
