ULYSSES – Shirley Ann Alcantar, 64, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nev.
She was born Nov. 21, 1945, to Burtis L. and Ellen (Mitchell) May in Garden City.
She married Richard Alcantar Nov. 15, 1970. He survives.
She attended Red Rock School and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1963. She was active in Glee Club, Pep Club and home economics activities. She received her BA degree in social work from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1967.
She worked in the child protection service field for 20 years in Tulure County, Calif. She was a Washoe County, Nev., employee in child protective services.
Shirley enjoyed music of any kind, Jazz Band festivals and scenic trips around the country.
Other survivors include her mother; his children; Rihana and Devon; one nephew, Michael Clarke; and many aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Judy Clarke.
o Funeral service were at 10 a.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Burial followed at Ulysses Cemetery.
