This fall, movie customers in Liberal and Guymon will have more 3D movies to choose from as Mitchell Theatres has purchased additional Digital projectors with 3D capability for the Northridge 8 and Southgate 6 theaters. The conversion away from traditional 35 MM film to digital transformation has accelerated worldwide at an unprecedented rate during the past year, with 3D being the catalyst for the conversions.
Hollywood is showing preference for movie theaters to convert from film to digital, as true digital cinema provides a better image and sound quality that never degrades. This weekend, Walt Disney is only releasing “Step Up 3” to theaters that can play it in digital, a trend that is expected to continue.
“We hate not being able to play ‘Step Up 3’ in Guymon and Liberal on the national release date but we should be able to play it in a couple of weeks,” Brian Mitchell said. “After the installations, we should be in good position for the Holiday movie season.”
When the additional projector installations are completed by October, Mitchell Theatres will be almost 30 percent digital.
