NBC: Liberal faces Haysville in key match-up PDF Print E-mail

While the history between the Haysville Heat and Liberal Bee Jays may be short, there already seems to be an air in the stadium that these two team really don’t like each other.

Perhaps it is because of the two very different approaches to the game.

In a three-game series at Brent Gould Field in mid-July, the Heat was out of their dugout along the rail, providing chatter throughout the game.

That style was in contrast to the Bee Jays who sat in their dugouts and played the games in a business-like manner.

Three of the games between the Heat and Liberal could have gone either way, with the Heat winning two of the close ones.

Other than that, the Heat had a blowout win, and the Bee Hays had two blowout victories.

While the Heat has developed into one of the powerful newcomers to the NBC, Liberal has been a solid performer for 50 years.

And the approaches may mirror the difference between a seasoned organization that has become accustomed to success, and a hotshot rookie program full of confidence and desire.

When Havasu made the move to Haysville, the Heat joined the premier league in summer baseball — the Jayhawk League. And in their first year, they won the league title.

Coming in second was the Liberal Bee Jays, the team with the most wins in the history of the conference.

Tonight at 7:30, the two meet with more at stake than ever. The winner will enter the Round of Six still having to be beaten twice while the loser will have no more free passes.

The game begins at 7:30 p.m. in Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita.
