OKLAHOMA CITY – Dr. Dwayne Colvin, EdD, 70, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

He was born Jan. 24, 1940, to William Alvin and Lorene Slater Colvin in Beaver, Okla.

He married Janice Friesen June 4, 1961, in Adams, Okla. She survives.

He attended Balko School and graduated from Balko High School with the Class of 1958. He attended Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla., receiving his BS in 1962. In 1972, he was awarded his masters in education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. His doctor of education was conferred in 1974.

He first taught at Garrett Elementary School then went to Guymon where he was a junior high principal.  He worked as an assistant superintendent with the Edmond Public Schools. In 1978, he was assistant superintendent at the Putman City School District in Oklahoma City. In 1980, he went to Fairview, Okla., working as their superintendent. In 1982, the couple moved back to Adams, Okla., where he farmed. In 1985, he became the assistant superintendent in Liberal. In 1990, he was the high school principal in Dodge City,  and in 1998, he worked as superintendent in Meade. He retired in 2001.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Okla.

He enjoyed woodworking.

Other survivors include one son, Mike Colvin and wife, Valerie, Flower Mound, Texas; one sister, Kathleen Boyd, Tulsa, Okla.; two grandsons, Chase Colvin and Chad Colvin, both of Flower Mound; and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Friesen, Liberal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dale Colvin and his sister, Raynelle Hornbuckle.

o Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Brother Jim Roebuck and Gordon Schroeder presiding.

Burial of cremains will take place at a future date in the Balko Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Baptist Student Center at OPSU or the Gibson Baptist Camp and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
