PLAINS – Casper J. “Cap” Jacobs, 76, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at Meade District Hospital.

He was born Aug. 31, 1933, to Peter J. and Felicitas E. (Herrman) Jacobs in Plains.

He married Nyla J. Baalman May 5, 1954, in Dodge City. She survives.

He attended the Plains school system, graduating from Plains High School.

After his graduation, he worked for W.R. Cottrell for a short time before moving to Dodge City and working at Fairmont Food.

Later in 1955, he was inducted into the United States Army serving until his discharge in September, 1957.  Upon his discharge, he moved to Kalvesta, where he began working for Winter Brothers Ranch. Throughout his life, he was a farmer and rancher, retiring in 1997 while still assisting his family in various farming and ranching capacities.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.

He is also survived by his children, Roxanne M. Dowling and husband, Kelly, rural Dodge City, Casper John Jacobs II and wife, Susan, rural Plains, Tawnya J. Hamilton and husband, Dennis, Dodge City, Tamra R. Wheaton, Lawrence, Leanna K. White and husband, Mike, Phoenix, and Ronald J. Jacobs and wife, Tawnya,  Plains; two brothers, Gerald E. Jacobs and wife, Mae, Dodge City, and Dennis Jacobs and wife, Wendy, Rogerville, Tenn.; one sister, Alice Preedy and husband, Larry, Keizer, Ore; 21 grandchildren,                     Tanner and wife, Cassie, Garrett and wife, Chanda, Payden, Laton Dowling; Clayton and wife, Amy, Shad and wife, Trista, Bailey and wife, Holly, and Bo Jacobs, Tyler, Jordon and wife, Deena, and Ben Hamilton, Jacob and wife, Ashley, Kelsey Swanson, Kaitlin and Jentry Wheaton, Cody, J.D. and Matt White and Dakota, Emily and Grady Jacobs; and 12 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Melvin R. and Marge Jacobs;  one sister, Eileen and Gene Dreher; and one sister-in-law, Marge Jacobs.

o Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Plains.

Holy mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Jimmy Barrozo and Father Angel Dy presiding.

Burial will be at the Plains Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
