• Daily Leader staff report
A Liberal man was hospitalized Wednesday when the vehicle he was a passenger in rolled just west of Liberal.
According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 40-year-old Maria L. Ramirez of Liberal was driving a 2001 Mazda Tribute SUV west on Tucker Road one-quarter mile west of Western Avenue at 2:48 p.m. when she lost control and the vehicle slid sideways into the ditch. The report said it was unknown how many times the Tribute rolled – though it landed on its wheels – but passenger Abdikafar A. Osman, 29, Liberal, sustained minor injuries in the mishap, despite using his seat restraint. He was transported to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal and was treated and released, according to hospital spokeswoman Nancy Kletecka.
Ramirez was not injured in the accident, and there were two other passengers in the Mazda, 21-year-old males from Liberal, who were also uninjured. All were wearing their seat belts, according to the KHP report.
