HUGOTON – Henry Merle Staples, 95, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at the Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton. 

He was was born Nov. 16, 1921 to J.W. staples and Edith (Sandburg) Staples in Pratt. 

He married Dorothy L. (Rasler) Staples Sept. 9, 1944 in Liberal. She preceded him in death Sept. 4, 2007. 

He was in the US Navy during the WWII conflict.  

He was a lifetime member of the US Submarine Veterans and VFW. 

Survivors include three nieces: Donita Graham, Hugoton, Joyce Tedrow, Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Johnnie and husband, Herman Slatten, Tyrone, Oklahoma; nephews, Ron Sutton and wife, Rebecca, Paola, and Jimmy Staples, Des Moines, Iowa; and manyother relatives and friends. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Jack Ray Staples; sister, Helen; five brothers: Charles, Dorsey, Gerald and Jack Staples; and nephew, John Staples. 

• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with Pastor Heath Kelley presiding.

Burial will take place at the Hugoton Cemetery. 

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton.
