L&T staff report

After a recommendation was made to the Seward County Community College Board of Trustees to fill the athletic director vacancy, the proposal was rejected.

In a release, the college stated, “After reviewing the search committee’s recommendation for a new Director of Athletics, and reviewing the applicants for the position, the Board determined that it would be beneficial and in the best interests of the College to reopen the search for Director of Athletics.”

One finalist and current Seward County sports information director Roy Allen, made it through the entire process despite having his wife, Thais Baziquetto-Allen, as the head coach of the Lady Saints volleyball team.

The college has an anti-neoptism policy, however, that did not prevent the college from allowing Allen to apply and advance through the selection process and become a finalist.

Trustee John Engel made the motion to reopen the search, Dustin Ormiston seconded, and the motion carried 5-0.

No timeframe has been established.
