Ruth Wagner, 90, died Sunday, March 12, 2017.
She was born March 15, 1926 to Henry and Lilly Prueter in Toledo, Ohio.
She married the Rev. William P. Wagner Aug. 14, 1954 at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death.
She attended Trinity Lutheran School for 6th through 8th grades. She graduated from Libbey High School in 1944, and attended the University of Toledo, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Education in 1948.
She taught 5th and 6th grade in the Toledo Public Schools from 1948-1954.
She served as a missionary in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea for 14 years with her husband.
She taught in schools in St. Louis, Gresham and Surprise, Nebraska, and in Liberal. She retired in 1992 and moved to Wichita in 1995, and substituted in the surrounding areas.
She taught a short time at Bethany Lutheran School.
She was baptized April 18, 1926 at the Zion Lutheran Church- Wisconsin Synod in Toledo, Ohio and confirmed March 17, 1940.
Survivors include five daughters: Sarah (Scott) Edwards, Maple Valley, Washington, Jennifer Wagner, Kent, Washington, Lisa Hamilton, Kent, Washington, Stephanie (Pastor Paul) Siems, Wichita, and Kristen Wagner, Mount Terrace, Washington; five grandchildren: Evie (Ryan) Lui-Kwan, Amy Edwards, Washington, Corey Wagner, Darrius and Gabriel Hamilton, Washington; nephews, Jeff and Brian Gartz; niece, Brenda Dillman; four cousins: Ted and William Prueter, Lois Balge, and Miriam Rude.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Paul Prueter; and sister, Esther Gartz.
• Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Memorials are suggested to help future seminarians at Concordia Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod, and the Lutheran Braille Workers Holy Cross Union.
