MOSCOW – Elsie Elaine Lyon White, 88, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Brookdale Liberal Springs in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 13, 1929 northwest of Greensburg at home.
She graduated from Wellsville High School and attended Kansas State Teacher College in Emporia.
She eventually taught in a country grade school in Franklin County.
She married Wilbur Wayne White on Aug. 27, 1950 in Paola in the Methodist Church. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Moscow and a lay member who attended the annual conference.
She was also a member of the Kansas Chapter of the International Flying Farmers and served many office within the chapter.
She was a member of the Kansas Soil Conservation, Women’s Auxiliary, she also hosted a foreign exchange student Anssi Halminen of Helsinki, Finland.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, was active in the Moscow Zippers 4-H club and belonged to the friendly Neighbors Extension Homemakers Unit.
Survivors include Ford White, Hugoton; sons, Edward and Janet White, Moscow, Richard and Cathy White, San Antonio, and Earl and Deborah White, Gilbert, Arizona; sisters, Nellie Faye Simmons, Claremore, Oklahoma, and Clarene Prothe, Paola; grandchildren: Brad White, Dodge City, Craig and Velvet White, Windsor, Colorado, Doug and Jennifer White, Oklahoma City, Crystal White, Pittsburg, and Elizabeth White, Hyattsville, Maryland; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Talley, Brayden, Ethan, Kaylee, Hannah, Ryder and Lauchlan.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lionel and Rheta Lyon; sister, Willa Jensen; and great-grandson, Conner White.
• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Moscow Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery.
