Kindergartners from McKinley and Garfield Elementary traveled to the Apple Hutch just south of Plains last Friday. The youth saw apples, pears and pumpkins grown on the trees and in the fields throughout the land that is home to the orchard. ABOVE: This student begins his relentless search for the pumpkin he will take home with him from the orchard last Friday. RIGHT: Alas, his search has ended as he grabs his prize before loading the bus for the next stop on the tour of the orchard. For more photos, see LIVING Page 6A. Daily Leader photos/Robert Pierce
