The Liberal Redskins and Lady Redskins combined to win three golds, four silvers and a pair of bronzes at Wichita State University’s Pre-State Classic at Cessna Stadium Saturday.
“The athletes battled some of the best talent in the state as well as the elements as the distance events were Thursday night in the wind and rain,” Liberal coach Tyson McGuire said. “Friday’s events were saw winds near 30 miles per hour.”
The event was divided into multiple classes including 4A and 5A in one division, and athletes could also compete in the Elite division eclipsing all classes.
Liberal’s three golds all came in the Elite Division.
“We were very proud of the efforts we saw,” McGuire said. “We even had some good personal best times into the wind.”
The meet also provided a sneak peek to the state track meet that will also take place at Cessna Stadium at the end of the track season.
“It was a great experience to not only compete against great competition, but to also compete at the same venue that state track will be hosted at in late May,” McGuire said.
