ULYSSES – Wilfred Eugene Schrepel, 84, died April 13, 2017, at the Brookdale Bearcreek Senior Living Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado following a brief illness.

He was born April 2, 1933 to Milton and Elsie (Boyle) Schrepel on a farm in eastern Barton County.  

After graduation from high school in Claflin in 1951, he attended Fort Hays Kansas State College, graduating in 1957 with a degree in education. He earned his Masters of Arts in Education from Colorado State College in Greeley, Colorado in 1961.

During the years of 1954 through 1956, he served in the Army 789 Anti-air Artillery Battalion serving in Ft. Stewart, Georgia.   

He married his wife Judith Aug. 26, 1956, in the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses. She survives.

He taught Language Arts at Ulysses High School for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1993.  

He enjoyed teaching and being involved in the production of high school musicals. He was the “Voice of the Tigers” and was the announcer for nearly all the varsity games played in Ulysses from 1962 to 1993.  

He was a long-time member of The Lions Club and a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church.  

He was a member of the Grant County Teacher’s Association, the Southwest Kansas Irrigation Association, the Southwest Kansas Royalties Association, and Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity.

Survivors include sons, Douglas Schrepel and Bradley Schrepel and their wives, Laurie Clauss and Tara (Roberts) Schrepel; sister, Lila McDermed; brother, Milton Schrepel, Jr. and wife, Karen Schrepel; five grandchildren: Caitlin Schrepel, Jordan Schrepel, Marissa Schrepel, Alanna Schrepel, and Wyatt Schrepel; great-granddaughter, Eliot Hendricks; and many friends.

• Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Dennis Mason presiding.  

Burial will take place Sunday, April 23, 2017 in Ellinwood.
