After giving Hays an early lead in Game 1 and then allowing the Indians to score four runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap, the Redskins had to win in different ways Thursday, but they were able to sweep both games form the Indians to earn a share of the Western Athletic Conference title with a 5-3 WAC record.

Liberal trailed 1-0 after Hays opened the first inning with two singles and a double but was only able to score one run when a runner was thrown out on the bases.

Liberal loaded the bases with no outs to start the second, but the next three batters struck out.

Hays loaded the bases in the third with two outs, but Kaiden Bigham was able to force a ground ball for the final out.

Liberal led off the fourth with a Kaleb Wilmes’ double followed by a single form Francisco Terrazas. Bigham laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Wilmes, and a Cade Hinkle single scored Terrazas to give Liberal a 2-1 lead.

Braxton Hyde relieved Bigham and did not allow a hit in the final three innings to preserve the 2-1 Redskin win.

Liberal took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2 on a pop foul that was caught by Hays but allowed Cesar Burciaga to score.

Hays tied the game in the bottom of the inning by scoring on a wild pitch.

Bigham gave Liberal a 3-1 lead with a two-RBI double in the third, and he added an RBI single in the fifth to go along with an Elijah McCarter RBI groundout, and Liberal had a 6-1 lead.

Hays cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth by taking advantage of back-to-back Liberal errors.

Neither team scored in the sixth, and Liberal added five insurance runs with an RBI single by Hinkle, a two-RBI double by Burciaga, and a two-RBI double by Cole Evans, and Liberal had an 11-3 lead.

But the Indians battled back in their final at-bat by taking advantage of three straight walks to load the bases with no outs.

Tucker Deaton took the mound and struck out the first two batters he faced before and error and a single allowed three Indians to score.

Hays added another run to cut the lead to 11-7 before a pop fly was caught by Alex Carillo in center field to secure the win.
