The Liberal Fire Department was called to a basement fire around noon Wednesday on Bellaire Court. Chief Kelly Kirk said the fire came from a heater in the basement. Although there was smoke damage, no one was injured. “We were called to this for smoke coming out of the basement,” Kirk said. “There was a lot of smoke throughout the house. What we found was a fire confined to the mechanical heater in the basement. It burned some of the insulation, and there is pretty significant smoke damage throughout the house.” Daily Leader photo/Robert Pierce
