A deep shot by Colton Onstott in the fourth inning and an RBI single from Trent Maloney in the sixth provided all the scoring the Bee jays needed to complete a three-game sweep over Derby Thursday with a 3-2 win.

Liberal finished the season series with a 5-1 record against the Twins.

Josh Sieglitz had a strong performance on the mound, only allowing four hits and two runs in sixth-and-a-third innings, and Chance Carner finished the game, only alowing one hit while striking out four in two-and-two-thirds innings.

Derby took a 1-0 lead in th third inning with a lead-off home run by Anthony Dominguez, but Onstott gave the Bee Jays a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a home run with Cale O’Donnell on base.

Great Bend tied the game in the fifth with back-to-back two-out singles that allowed Connor Basler to score.

But the Bee Jays responded in the sixth when Marcus Shoemaker led off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Schmidt.

After Onstott struck out, Maloney delivered a two-out single to score Shoemaker and give the Bee Jays a 2-1 lead.

Sieglitz got into a jam in the seventh when Derby had runners at second and third with only one out, and Liberal coach Daniel Parker relieved him with Carner who recorded a line out and a strikeout to leave the runners stranded.

Carner retired the Twins in order in the eighth, and after a lead-off single in the ninth for Derby, Carner struck out Jacob Means and forced a double play to end the game and secure the 3-2 win.

The sweep pushed Liberal into sole possession of second place and sets up a critical three-game series with first-place Hays beginning tonight at Brent Gould Field. Liberal trails Hays by a single game in the Jayhawk League.
