When the Bee Jays qualified for the NBC World Series, they weren’t seeking an easy road.

Team officials stated that they hoped they would be in the same pool with the former Major League players that make up the Kansas Stars.

altIt appears their wish has been granted.

Liberal will open the NBC World Series Championship Week at 4 p.m. Saturday against the Everett, Wash., Merchants.

The Merchants finished second to the Seattle Studs in the Pacific International League.

The Studs won the league with a 23-3 record, 37-7 overall.

The Merchants turned a 19-16 season, 14-6 in league play.

Liberal finished the Jayhawk League in first place with a record of 30-12 and is 31-13 overall.

Also in the Bee Jay pool are the Colorado Cyclones. They turned in a season record of 20-6 to win the post season tournament in the Mile High Collegiate League.

The Fort Collins Bandits also qualified from the MHCL and is participating in the First Week of the NBC World Series.

Liberal will also play the Kansas Stars with the potential of a Monday game that will be televised on ESPN, but that has yet to be confirmed.

The Stars are organized by Roger Clemens and include former Major League players including Chipper Jones and Koyie Hill.

After Saturday’s game, Liberal will face either the Kansas Stars or the Colorado Cyclones Monday with the remaining team finishing pool play on Wednesday.
