MEADE – Martin R. Bartel, 86, Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center.
He was born Oct. 20, 1924, to Jacob J and Elizabeth (Rempel) Bartel.
He married Helen Reimer on Aug. 22, 1947. She survives.
He farmed and worked in the feed business until his retirement. He served in CPS during World War II in California and Wisconsin.
He was a charter member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church of Meade where he served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. He was also active in Gideons International.
He enjoyed working with horses. He won many awards from the feed business. He also enjoyed traveling.
Other survivors include his sons, Harry and wife, Marilyn, Hugoton, and Richard, Ulysses; daughters, Ruth and Wilma, Hugoton; grandchildren Clint and wife, Maggie, Syracuse, N.Y., Erin, Harrodsburg, Ky.; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Don, one brother and two sisters.
o Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Emmanual Mennonite Church, Meade.
