ULYSSES – Lofton “Sunny” Battles, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born March 19, 1934, to George and Willie Lucille (Loftin) Battles in White Rock, Ark.

He married Phyllis Sherlah Palmer Jan. 31, 1958, in Dodge City. She survives.

He enjoyed his great-grandchildren and music, playing a band, singing and playing the guitar and fiddle. He was also a KU Jayhawk fan.

Other survivors include two sons, Clifford Church and wife, Teresa, Cypress, Texas, and Kelly Battles, Ulysses; two sisters, Helen Rogers, Spring Green, Wis., and Mary Taff and husband, Guy, Ozark, Ark.; two grandchildren, Kristina Graberand Sunny Clanton; and five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Clifton Battles, and two sisters, Ruby Hawkins and Inez Lancaster.

o Friends may sign the register from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grant County Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to either the American Heart Association or the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City and may be mailed to Grant County Funeral Home, 218 S. Main, Ulysses, KS 67880.
