Ten-time Western Athletic Cnference boys soccer champion Liberal rolls into the playoffs tomorrow night as the South Central Region’s top seed once again. The 12-3-1 Redskins take on a 1-15 Wichita West squad they have already seen once this season.
The two met at Wichita North on Oct. 11 in the North Cup tournament, with the Angry Red grabbing a 10-0 victory. It was one of three “mercy rule” losses for West, who’s only win was 1-0 over Coffeyville on Sept. 7.
In that lone meeting, Isai Gutierrez scored four times and Jose Chavira twice. Hector Mata had a goal and three assists.
In WAC play, Gutierrez has 10 goals and four assists, Chavira five goals and three assists, Socorro Martinez four goals, and Hector Mata three goals and five assists.
Goal tender Frederic Gomez has 15 saves.
In the regional bracket, a win by the Redskins tomorrow night over West will pit them against the winner of the match between No. 6 seed McPherson (9-6-1) and No. 7 Andover (8-6-2).
That match would be played at Redskin Field on Thursday night at 6:30.
