Special to the Leader & Times

The Annual Fishing Derby sponsored by the Recreation Department is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the first pond at Arkalon Park. This year to encourage the whole family to come out and enjoy this event the Recreation Department is only charging $1 per person. This is for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 14.  Everyone can fish, however, you are limited to one pole per person fishing, and if you are 16 or older, you must have a Kansas fishing license. All Kansas fishing regulations and subsequent Arkalon regulations must be observed.  During this event, only live bait will be allowed, no artificial bait.

A parent or adult guardian must accompany each child under the age of 16. Please, no children left unattended at this event. Bring the whole family out and enjoy the morning with the Recreation Department.  Register at Arkalon Park the day of the event. Arkalon Park is located 10 miles Northeast of Liberal on Highway 54.

For additional information contact Ronna Stump at the Recreation Office during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 626-0133.
